New Self-Serve Frozen Yogurt Shop Coming to Arlington Center

The 'froyo' craze continues in Arlington.

A new self-serve frozen yogurt, or “froyo,” shop is coming to Arlington Center.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a common victualler, or operating, license for “Yummy’s” Monday night. The shop is going in at 474 Mass. Ave., the former home of Something Extra, a women’s boutique. The storefront is to the right of Sweet Chili.

Aneesh Bhambri, a Burlington resident who owns the Sprint store in Arlington Center, as well as two others, is the man behind the shop. He previously owned eight Verizon stores, including the one in Arlington Center.

Yummy’s is the second froyo shop slated for Arlington. Frozland Frozen Yogurt is moving into 882B Mass. Ave., across the street from Arlington High School, as well.

Self-serve frozen yogurt has become quite the trend in the Arlington area overall. In the last 18 months, two self-serve spots, Fruitee Yogurt and Orange Leaf, have opened in Lexington Center, one, Swizzles, opened in Winchester Center, and two more, iYo Cafe and again Orange Leaf, came to Somerville’s Davis Square. A Pinkberry was also slated for Davis Square this fall but withdrew its application after it appeared it would be denied.

Yummy’s will seat 19, according to Bhambri’s application, and its initial menu has the following flavors: Original Tart, Cookies N Cream, Chocolate, Taro, Cheesecake, Coconut, Mango, Kiwi, Strawberry and Lychee.

The menu also lists more than 30 toppings.

It appears a good deal of work still needs to be done to the space before it’s ready to open. We’ll post a projected open date when it’s available.
