A woman sat on a bench at Scannell Field in Arlington on Saturday afternoon and then a 30- to 35-foot tree fell behind her, striking her on her head and right shoulder.
The tree’s base appeared to be rotted, police said.
The woman was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston for further evaluation of her injuries.

The incident happened at the field, adjacent to Spy Pond, at about 3:45 p.m. Saturday.
