PHOTOS/VIDEO: State Police Divers Don't Find Gun in Mystic River

See what unrelated items they found instead.

Massachusetts State Police divers combed the Mystic River near the River Street bridge for about two hours Thursday, but they didn’t find the gun they were looking for, according to Arlington Police Capt. Richard Flynn.

The state police dive team was assisting Arlington police with an ongoing drug investigation, he said. The gun was allegedly thrown from the bridge into the river.

“We’re going to have to re-interview the suspect,” Flynn said after the failed search.

The police presence and divers from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. had residents at the scene asking, “Are they searching for a body?” Fortunately, that was not the case.

Instead of the gun, the police divers found a number of unrelated items, including a hubcap, fishing rod and large bong (all shown in the video above).

Flynn said conditions were “perfect” for the search.
