Barismo Adding Fairly Significant Outdoor Seating

See what the East Arlington coffee shop has planned.

Barismo, at 171 Mass. Ave. in Capitol Square, is planning to add a decent amount of outdoor seating and planters, the coffee shop’s manager told the Board of Selectmen Monday.

“We want it to have more of a café feel,” he said.

Selectmen unanimously approved the shop’s plan in a 3-0 vote.

“I think this will be a great addition to the neighborhood,” Selectman Steven Byrne said.

The shop is planning to add two benches adjacent to its storefront and three tables along Mass. Ave. with planters (plans pictured above). The seating will take up about 11 feet of the 15-foot sidewalk, leaving the permissible four feet for pedestrians.

Barismo expanded in December, moving from 169 Mass. Ave. to its current location and added one indoor table soon after.
