Greer Tan Swiston is a candidate for State Representative in the 11th Middlesex. She is running to represent the villages of Auburndale, Newton Lower Falls, West Newton, Newtonville, parts of Nonantum, Newton Corner, parts of Newton Center and parts of Waban. With recent redistricting, the district lines are a bit tricky. If in doubt, the best bet is to call the Elections Office.

Greer has been elected to the Board of Alderman for three consecutive years and is currently serving her third term. She has been the Vice Chair and then Chair of the Post Audit & Oversight committee and has served on the Public Safety and Transportation committee as well as the Zoning and Planning committee.

She was appointed by Governor Romney to serve on the Judicial Nominating Committee as well as the Commission on the Status of Women. She was recently appointed by Governor Patrick to serve on the State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights.

Professionally, Greer is a Realtor with CENTURY 21 Commonwealth. Prior to becoming a real estate agent, she spent over 15 years working in high tech as a software engineer, project manager and IT Executive. After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Greer worked at NASA JPL, Fidelity Investments and Merrill Lynch as well as several startups inbetween.

Greer has been a chronic volunteer since childhood. Adulthood only changed how she volunteers. She's coached soccer and t-ball. She's been seen at color day and after prom parties. She currently teaches a preschool class at the local Chinese Community center, volunteers with the Girl Scouts and is a familiar face in several Newton Assisted living facilities as well as among the Veterans of Newton.

Greer and her husband, Rob, live in Newton with their two children Parker and Kayla.
