ReplyThis is the NORTH READING Patch. Why is there a picture of Reading's high school? And why are 4 of the 5 "things to do" in Reading? If there's nothing to do in North Reading (which I doubt), then just omit this post.

Mel, how convenient that the one drawing you have is from May 2012, AFTER the override was approved. I guess you don't remember seeing the drawings that were presented multiple times at public meetings and online, BEFORE the override, that showed a softball field. Convenient amnesia?

Mel, are you serious when you claim that you don't know what I'm talking about? Did you not look at any of the plans for the secondary schools site? Did they not all clearly include a softball field? Did you assume that "softball" really meant "baseball"?
By the way, the US Dept of Education considers 10 factors in determining whether equal treatment of the sexes exists. Among these are the provision of equipment and supplies; scheduling of games and practice time; travel; and provision of locker rooms, practice and competitive facilities. For each of these factors, North Reading fell, and continues to fall, way short of providing equal treatment to the young women in the High School.
Among your responsibilities as a school committee member are establishing policy and making decisions that do not discriminate. You simply didn't do your job when you rubber stamped the second baseball field.

Mel, the fact is that the whole project was sold on the basis that a softball field would be installed at the high school. Months of planning and design went on and nobody claimed the need for a second baseball field. Then, all of a sudden, after the project was approved by the voters, we start hearing the clamor for a second baseball field. And the school committee rubber stamped the request from the baseball folks. The timing is mighty suspicious. If one were the cynical type, one might think that a second baseball field was planned all along, and the softball field was included in the publicly available designs simply for appearances only.

Mel, with all respect, it was the School Committee that put pressure on the SSBC to reverse their original decision to provide a softball field at the high school. So don't pretend to shirk your responsibilities for that bad decision by pointing fingers at the SSBC. That is simply disingenuous, and you know it is. Or you should.

Joe, just one more of the many, many reasons to make sure that nobody writes in your name tomorrow. Your disgraceful attitude disqualifies you from service on the school committee.

You are right, although your grammar and diction are terrible. "Past" could HAVE been last week. (It couldn't "of" been anything.)
