Today is Thursday, Aug. 23. Here are five things you need to know: 1. Today’s weather forecast. 2. You can now register for Arlington’s Walter V. Moynihan Town Day Road Race, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 15, at Arlington High School. The 2.7-mile race starts at 8:30 a.m. and includes a stretch of the Minuteman bike path. Trophies will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in multiple divisions. Crowds filled Massachusetts Avenue on Saturday, joining Arlingtonians and friends of the town to celebrate Arlington Town Day. There were activities for the kids, food vendors, local businesses and nonprofits showcasing their activities. Bands filled the air with music. Families enjoy a night of fun to kick off Arlington's annual Town Day celebrations.
Hundreds of children and adults were at Spy Pond Field on Friday, enjoying the kickoff of Arlington's annual Town Day. There were train rides, a dog show, fair food and pony rides. Here’s what’s happening at Arlington’s annual Town Day this Satuday: The Walter V. Moynihan Town Day Run begins at 8:30 a.m, open to all ages. Proceeds from the run will benefit Arlington’s youth activities. The route is 2.7 miles long, starting and ending in front of Arlington High School. Registration fee is $15 and can be paid starting at 7:30 a.m. The run will be held rain or shine. At 9:50 a.m., the Menotomy Minutemen will march from the Jason Russell House down Massachusetts Avenue to hold a flag-raising ceremony. More than 200 booths will line Massachusetts Avenue between Pleasant and Jason streets from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Among the vendors will be arts and crafts, nonprofit and local business displays and delicious food. Event kicks off at 5 p.m. today at Spy Pond Field.
Arlingtons' community event of the year, Town Day, begins at 5 p.m. this afternoon with rides, booths and a fireworks display. Here's a list of all the events planned for tonight's fun time at Spy Pond Field: 5-7:30 p.m.: Kiddie rides, moonwalks, face painting, games, train rides with roaming railroad and the Well Dressed Pony Rides. 5:30-7:30 p.m.: Hot Tamale Brass Brand and Bean Town Clown 6-7 p.m.: Dog show with Glen Doyle (registration starts at 5:30 p.m. Dusk: Fireworks Bug spray table Don’t worry about those nasty little guys. The Department of Health will have a bug spray table by Pond Lane, across the field from the baseball diamond and near the bathrooms.
