Restaurant Openings and Closings in Arlington, Somerville, Medford and Belmont

A look at the area restaurant scene.

Arlington A new restaurant is coming to East Arlington. Menotomy Grill and Tavern, which is set for the old Hollywood Video space at 25 Massachusetts Ave., received operating and all-alcohol licenses last week from the Board of Selectmen. The roughly 150-seat restaurant is being proposed by Arlington resident Billy Lyons, of Scituate Street, who most recently managed the Black Horse Tavern in Winchester. The Savory Plate Adding Outdoor Seating

The Arlington Heights "gourmet-food place" received the go-ahead Monday from the Board of Selectmen.

The Savory Plate was granted outdoor seating Monday by the Board of Selectmen. The Arlington Heights “gourmet-food place,” which opened in January, will have six small café tables with two chairs each along its storefront at 1346 Massachusetts Ave., the Savory Plate’s Jonathan Lyons told the board. “We thought it would add something really nice to the block,” he said. The sidewalk in front of the Savory Plate is about 7.5 feet wide, and the tables will be about 2 feet wide, Lyons said. Board chairman Kevin Greeley commented that it appears the new business is doing well. “We’ve had very good luck so far,” Lyons said. 5 Things to Know About Arlington's Newest 'Gourmet-Food Place'

1.) NEW KID ON THE BLOCK: The Savory Plate opened its doors two-and-a-half months ago at 1346 Massachusetts Ave. in Arlington Heights, the former home of V3 Multisport. Converting the sporting-goods store’s stockroom into a kitchen wasn’t easy, according to Savory Plate’s president, Ken McCord, but so far, so good. “We’ve gotten a great reception from the community,” he said recently. “We’re really happy here.” 2.)
