The following is a Letter to the Editor from Arlington resident Clarissa Rowe, a former Arlington selectman. The 24th Middlesex District is lucky to have three qualified Democrats running to represent us. After much thought and conversation with the candidates, I have decided to endorse Margaret Hegarty. We need more women legislators on Beacon Hill. In 2011, only 23.5 percent of the House was women. We need to do better. Anne Paulsen of Belmont represented us on the Hill for a long time, and we were very well served during her tenure. Margaret is ready to take up her mantle. Margaret comes from a politically active family in Belmont. Her 10-year-old daughter and her parents often join her on the campaign trail. I am confident that …

The following is a joint Letter to the Editor from Arlington residents Joseph A. Curro Jr., a selectman, and Judson L. Pierce and Cindy Starks, both school committee members. We have all been inundated with wall-to-wall coverage of every political thrust and parry around November's Presidential and Congressional elections. The commencement of nominating conventions over the coming weeks will certainly ratchet up the noise level, even as many of us turn our attention to autumn’s milder pursuits, including the opening of another school year and of the football season. Against such a backdrop, it can be easy to forget that we are actually coming up to an election on September 6th -- a mere two weeks from now -- and that Democratic primary …

The following is a Letter to the Editor from Arlington resident Eric Helmuth, a Precinct 12 Town Meeting Member. Hard working. Thoughtful. Articulate. These are qualities that stand out when I talk with Dave Rogers, and they are qualities I want in my elected representatives. Dave has personally knocked on over 2,000 doors in Arlington, Belmont and Cambridge. This impressive level of commitment to meeting and listening to voters really stands out. It says something about the kind of effort Dave would devote to the job. I am similarly impressed with Dave’s nuanced views on transportation, healthcare and environmental protection. There are no simple solutions to these persistent challenges that directly affect my community, but Dave …

TO: Arlington Democrats and independents (unenrolled) taking a Democratic ballot: From: Charlie Shapiro, Democrat for Governor's Council. In most elections the Governor's Council race is overlooked. On the ballot it's simply called "Councillor". Many are not aware what it is, or what it means. In fact typically over 50% of voters just leave it blank. This year, however, you have a chance to …   more ›
