Save the Date: Library Director to Dress Up as Clifford the Big Red Dog

See when Robbins Library Director Ryan Livergood will make good on his bet.

The folliowing is from Robbins Library Director Ryan Livergood. Arlington didn’t quite come out on top in their February Library Card Sign Up Challenge with Belmont, Lexington and Somerville. As a result, Arlington’s Director of Libraries Ryan Livergood plans on staying true to his promise of appearing at the winning library dressed as Clifford the Big Red Dog. The winner of the Challenge was Somerville, and Livergood will appear at the Somerville Public Library dressed as Clifford the Big Red Dog on Friday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. during the library’s toddler storytime. Library Director, Selectman to Dress Up as Clifford the Big Red Dog

Robbins Library Director Ryan Livergood and Arlington Selectman Joseph Curro Jr. will soon be dressing up as Clifford the Big Red Dog, as Arlington lost February’s library card sign up challenge, Livergood announced Friday. Somerville won the challenge with a 320 percent increase in sign-ups this February compared to last. Belmont finished second with a 186 percent increase, Arlington third with a 183 percent increase and Lexington fourth. Somerville’s library director, Maria Carpenter, warned Livergood of his impending fate at the challenge’s kick-off press conference. “Something you should know about Somerville is that we are fiercely competitive,” she said. Last Chance: To Thank Your Retiring Library Director

Maryellen Remmert-Loud's 27-year tenure is coming to a close.

A retirement reception for longtime town library director Maryellen Remmert-Loud will be held this Thursday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Robbins’ Reading Room. Remmert-Loud has served as Arlington’s library director for 27 years and even worked at Fox Branch Library as a teenager. The reception’s more formal program will begin at 5:30 p.m. At the reception, donations to the library will be accepted in Remmert-Loud’s honor. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of Robbins Library, who are sponsoring the event with the Friends of Fox Library and the Robbins Board of Trustees. Ryan Livergood, the assistant director and head of adult services at Robbins Library, will take Remmert-Loud’s place.

New Arlington Library Director Named

The assistant director at Robbins has been promoted.

A new town library director has been named. Ryan Livergood, the assistant director and head of adult services at Robbins Library, will move into the position, according to Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine, who made the call and recently agreed to terms with Livergood. Livergood, who was the assistant director in Dover before coming to Arlington last summer, will replace longtime library director Maryellen Remmert-Loud. Remmert-Loud, who is set to retire, served as Arlington’s library director for 27 years and even worked at Fox Branch Library as a teenager.  A retirement reception will be held for Remmert-Loud on Thursday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m., in Robbins’ Reading Room.
