The Arlington High softball team will be at home, while Arlington Catholic will travel to Amesbury.
The eighth-seeded Arlington High softball team will host No. 9 Melrose at 4 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Division 2 North bracket, while Arlington Catholic, the No. 12 seed, will travel to No. 5 Amesbury for a 3:45 p.m. contest. In their first season in the Middlesex League, the Spy Ponders finished in a three-way tie atop the standings, as they, Lexington and Reading all had 7-3 league records. The Spy Ponders went 14-6 overall and beat league foe Melrose 11-4 in the teams’ only showdown. Arlington enters postseason play having won seven of its last nine games. Melrose (12-8) is in the midst of a four-game winning streak. The Cougars went 13-7 during the regular season. Amesbury, of the Cape Ann League, went 16-4.

The Arlington High and Arlington Catholic baseball teams have both secured home games in the first round of their respective playoffs. The Spy Ponders are the No. 8 seed in the Division 2 North bracket and will host No. 9 Marblehead at 4 p.m. Thursday at Spy Pond Field. The Ponders finished their first regular season in the Middlesex League 12-8, while Marblehead went 11-9 in the Northeastern Conference. Marblehead did go 8-2 in its last 10 games, however. The Cougars earned the No. 7 seed in the Division 3 North bracket with a 13-7 record during the regular season (which includes a 2-1 win over Arlington in the Holovak and Coughlin Tournament last weekend). Emma Roberson was the star for Arlington Catholic last night. She led the way for her Cougars on the stat-sheet with a double double. Her 23 points and 12 assists were the catalyst in helping Arlington Catholic advance to the Division II North Sectional Final on Saturday night. Lowell's Tsongas Arena hosts the game at 6p.m. Arlington Catholic head coach had this to say about his star junior, "She can go to the basket very well; she also has a pull up jump shot." North Andover has been ousted from the Division 2 North Sectional tournament three years in a row by the Cougars. This time, however, the stakes were much higher.
