Update, 11:20 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 Only one NStar customer in Arlington was without power at 11:15 p.m. tonight, according to NStar's Outage Map. ----- Forty-five NStar customers in Arlington were without power at 11 p.m. tonight, according to NStar's Outage Map. Forty-one were without at 10:30 p.m., so there hasn't been much of a change in the last half hour. The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) reported at 11 p.m. that roughly 300,000 Massachusetts residents had lost power due to tonight's blizzard. Most of NStar's outages are on or near Cape Cod, according to the map. However, nearby Watertown had 8,081 residents without power (or 47 percent) at 11 p.m. So, let us know. Do you have power? The following is from the Town of Arlington. Snow Emergency/Parking Ban Declared For February 8 The Town of Arlington has declared a snow emergency/parking ban, effective Friday, February 8th starting at 2 p.m. This is a major snow event with high winds and heavy snowfall predicted. The ban will be lifted when conditions allow. Another Town Notice will be sent when that happens. During a Snow Emergency, a parking ban is in place on all streets and municipal parking lots. It is crucial to keep cars off the streets during this time to allow the Town to clear the roads. Any vehicles parked on the streets during these hours will be subject to ticketing and towing. Update 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 The Arlington Public Schools will be closed Friday, joining Arlington Catholic and St. Agnes School, according to 7News. ----- Update 2:37 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 7 Arlington Catholic will be closed Friday as well, Principal Stephen Biagioni announced in an email to parents. ----- St. Agnes School will be closed on Friday due to the impending blizzard, according to 7News. A number of area towns and cities have already decided to close Friday as well, but there is still no word from the Arlington Public Schools or Arlington Catholic. By now you probably know that the National Weather Service has issued a “Blizzard Warning” for all of eastern Massachusetts, including Arlington. The nor’easter, aka “Nemo,” is expected to start with some snow showers Friday morning and pick up with heavy snow Friday evening into Saturday morning. Just got back from Market Basket. The lines for the registers began at the back of the store at the meat section, across the back as far as the fruit section, then did a loop (still in the back of the store. The snow removal project after Blizzard 2013 was 3rd class. As of today, February 18th, the mess still exists in places where lanes can easily be cleared and made fully usable. take a look at the parking spaces on Mass. Ave.westbound, just past the Fire Station in Arlington Center. They remain full of snow. That's just one example. Itw as a crappy job all around.   more ›
