A sneak peek inside Arlington's soon-to-be newest restaurant, and the latest details on its opening date, chef, menu and more.
Here are the latest details on Menotomy Grill & Tavern, the new East Arlington restaurant slated for 25 Mass. Ave. Opening date: Owner Billy Lyons, of Arlington, said Menotomy Grill & Tavern should open to the public by the end of next week. “We’re just waiting on a gas connection,” he said Friday. Lyons, who has been in the restaurant for roughly three decades, said he designed about 90 percent of the restaurant himself. “I’ve had it in my head for years,” he said. Chef and menu: Lyons has hired Mark Thompson as the restaurant’s chef. The two worked together at Stoddard’s Fine Food & Ale in Boston. A new gluten/wheat free bakery in East Arlington is planning to open this week, while a new wine shop in town is still a few weeks away, a new grill and tavern, a few months. Something Sweet Without Wheat Something Sweet Without Wheat, which has moved into the old Barismo spot at 169 Mass. Gemma’s name change was approved at Monday’s Board of Selectmen’s meeting.
The owners of the recently closed Gemma Ristorante are behind Cooper’s Tavern, according to paperwork filed with the Board of Selectmen’s office. Ilir and Melaiza Velagoshti wrote to the board that they’re planning to operate a “casual American style restaurant” at the former Gemma site, 319 Broadway in Arlington Center, as they feel “it is more appropriate and needed in [the] business district.” ----- Do you agree with the owners? The requested change follows on the heels of a new historically named tavern set for East Arlington.
The recently closed Gemma Ristorante in Arlington Center might become “Cooper’s Tavern.” The change will be requested Monday night at the Board of Selectmen’s meeting, according to the meeting’s agenda. Cooper’s Tavern will be the second new historically named tavern to come before the board in less than a month. Arlington A new restaurant is coming to East Arlington. Menotomy Grill and Tavern, which is set for the old Hollywood Video space at 25 Massachusetts Ave., received operating and all-alcohol licenses last week from the Board of Selectmen. The roughly 150-seat restaurant is being proposed by Arlington resident Billy Lyons, of Scituate Street, who most recently managed the Black Horse Tavern in Winchester. A new restaurant is coming to East Arlington. Menotomy Grill and Tavern, which is set for the old Hollywood Video space at 25 Massachusetts Ave., received operating and all-alcohol licenses Monday from the Board of Selectmen. The roughly 150-seat restaurant is being proposed by Arlington resident William Lyons, of Scituate Street, who most recently managed the Black Horse Tavern in Winchester and has more than two decades of experience in the restaurant business.
