What's Open, Closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Arlington

Federal and state offices are closed but many business are open.

On Monday, Jan. 21, Massachusetts observes Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday (actually on Jan. 15). While King's Birthday is one of ten holidays recognized by the federal government, the feds don't require employers to pay workers for this holiday from work. Businesses traditionally provide their employees with a paid holiday as part of a benefits package because most other employers do the same. And according to the Massachusetts Secretary of State's office, business and commercial activities may operate as usual. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observance Tonight

Doors open at 6:45 p.m., the program begins at 7:30 p.m.

The following is from the Town of Arlington. The 25th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Observance will feature guest speaker Rev. Dr. Gloria White-Hammond and music by "The King of Love is Dead" by Paul White. This is a pot luck dessert and social. The event will be held at Arlington Town Hall, doors open at 6:45 p.m., program begins 7:30 p.m. Additional information.
