Arlington Woman's Baby First Born at Winchester Hospital in 2013

Hunter Joseph was born at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1.

An Arlington woman's New Year's baby was the first baby born at Winchester Hospital in 2013, according to a hospital press statement. Hunter Joseph was born to Melissa Parziale of Arlington and Michael Sampson of Stoneham at 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, according to the statement. Hunter weighed 8 pounds, 10 ounces and was 21 ½ inches long. Parziale was at Winchester Hospital since Monday when her water broke 10 minutes before the New Year’s Eve ball dropped. She quickly went into labor and Hunter was born a few hours later, according to the statement. “The original due date was today, so I thought there was a chance the baby would be coming on New Year’s,” Parziale said through the hospital. Cambridge Savings Bank Schools Arlington Students on Value of Banking

Arlington elementary school banks teach banking skills and money smarts.

The following is from Cambridge Savings Bank. Cambridge Savings Bank (CSB) recently kicked off operations at two elementary school banks in Arlington, including one at the longest-running school bank in Massachusetts. The elementary school banks at the Brackett School and the Peirce School allow volunteer tellers to collect deposits and record these transactions in individual passbooks. The school bank program allows students at each school to deposit money every Friday while fifth graders manage deposits and accounts. Pooled funds are deposited into Brackett School and Peirce School bank accounts at the Cambridge Savings Bank banking center in Arlington Heights. There's no better time to give back to your community than the holiday season.

Sandy Hook Tree Lighting at Arlington Elks Thursday Evening

Twenty-six Christmas trees will be lit with white lights at 7 p.m.

Twenty-six Christmas trees will be lit with white lights at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Arlington Lodge of Elks on Pond Lane to honor the 26 victims of Friday’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. The event is being organized by Debbie MacDonald, a member of the Arlington Elks. You can join the event on Facebook here: Sandy Hook Memorial Tree Lighting. On the Facebook page, MacDonald said that Season’s Four in Lexington has already donated the 26 trees, but that white Christmas lights and outdoor extension cords are still needed. Lights and extension cords can be dropped off at the Elks’ member’s lounge from now until Tuesday (its door is at the bottom of the stairs at the rear of the lodge; it’s open 3-11 p.m. daily). …

Arlington’s Ali McKeigue Inducted Into Connecticut College’s Chapter of Psi Chi

McKeigue is a 2009 graduate of Arlington High School.

Ali McKeigue, a senior at Connecticut College, was recently inducted into the Connecticut College chapter of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society of Psychology. Psi Chi was founded in 1929 for the purpose of encouraging, stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology. McKeigue, a 2009 graduate of Arlington High School, is the daughter of John and Emily McKeigue of Arlington.
