At least one resident thinks so. What'd you think? Let us know by posting a comment below.
We recently received an email from a concerned resident about the amount of litter along the new Alewife Brook Greenway, which opened last fall. The resident specifically pointed out the area under the new ramp near Broadway and Alewife Brook Parkway – the attached photos show just some of the trash, including a number of beer cans (there is also some old furniture as well). “It’s just disgusting and a real blight on what should be a great addition to East Arlington,” the resident wrote. Ginns said she had previously reached out to Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine and the town’s Department of Public Works. “I do not feel that enough has been done to address what I see as a growing problem,” she wrote in a letter to the board. At the meeting, she said she was particularly concerned with the litter she sees on Highland Avenue and the Minuteman bike path during her morning runs, as well as the loose trash at bus stops and in front of businesses. Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine told her it’s really all about the town’s limited resources. Board chairman Kevin Greeley added that it …

The litter problem along the Arlington side of Alewife Brook Parkway (where the new bike path extension is located) has gotten worse since the bike path extension opened. The increase in foot and bike traffic, along with the lack of trash receptacles anywhere along the path, has contributed to the problem. Additionally, the lack of care exhibited by the trash removal staff wherein they get only …   more ›
