Five Arlington eateries will have special desserts this week to help support breast cancer research and care.
This week, more than 250 restaurants, bakeries, cafés and chocolate shops in Massachusetts, including five in Arlington, will be participating in the 13th annual Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer. During the weeklong fundraiser, from Monday to Sunday (March 7-13), all of the eateries will have a unique dessert, starting at $3, with the proceeds going toward breast cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a newly-formed nonprofit breast cancer organization. The auction goes through Wednesday, May 2. The school’s PTO is also hosting live and silent auctions Friday night.
If you haven’t yet, you only have until Wednesday, May 2, to bid in the Dallin PTO’s online auction (http://bit.ly/dallinauction). The auction features more than 70 items, including gift certificates to local restaurants, businesses and gyms, and tickets to nearby museums and theaters. The school’s PTO is also hosting live and silent auctions, starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Masonic Temple. Proceeds from both auctions will benefit the school’s students.

Arlington Town Meeting is set to begin at 8 p.m. Monday, April 23.
With Arlington Town Meeting less than a week away, the 2012 Town Meeting Warrant and 2011 Annual Report are now online and ready for your review. The 21-page warrant serves as the meeting’s agenda, while the 141-page annual report gives a complete overview of the town in 2011. Town Meeting commences at 8 p.m. Monday, April 23, in Town Hall. This coming Thursday, April 19, the moderator will review the warrant and there will be an orientation for Town Meeting members at 7:30 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Hearing Room in Town Hall.

Fashion at the Fox, the second-hand women’s clothing sale that benefits Fox Library and the Arlington Public Schools, is in need of donations. The fundraiser is looking for used, contemporary or vintage women’s clothing, shoes, jewelry, handbags, scarves, hats, gloves and more. Donations are being accepted this Wednesday, April 4, and next Wednesday, April 11, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Fox Library basement – or by appointment (volunteers will even come and pick up your items). Candidates Night is Thursday, March 29.
Co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Arlington and Vision 2020, Thursday night's Candidates' Night is a forum to offer residents an opportunity to learn about their candidates, their qualifications, character, strenghths and weaknesses. Town Meeting candidates will be available from 7:30-8 pm; the candidates’ forum starts at 8. The event will be held in Arlington Town Hall. Each candidate will present a two minute opening speech. Audience members can submit questions by writing them on cards at the beginning of the evening and during the opening speeches.
