Arlington Teen Temporarily Banned from Boston for Alleged Graffiti

The teen was also given a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew while his case is pending.

An Arlington teen and 27-year-old Lexington man allegedly spray painted roughly 27 light poles in Boston’s Back Bay early Monday morning. Isaac Lehman, 18, and Andrew Vesprini were arrested by Boston Police at about 2:03 a.m. Monday and charged with damage to property by graffiti, according to a Boston Police Department release. The two appeared in front of Boston Municipal Court Judge Sally Kelly later Monday. Kelly released both men on their own recognizance with orders to stay out of the City of Boston and abide by a curfew of 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. while their cases are pending, according to Suffolk County District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark. Police Log: Graffiti Vandals, Hit and Run

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department. When arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

  The following incidents were documented in the Arlington Police logs. Tagging Incidents Arlington Police were called to the area of 6 Alton Street at 2:38 p.m. on Feb. 10 for a report of graffiti vandalism. Police found upon arrival that the word “Mars” was spray painted in a silver color in the rear alley of Broadway Plaza. The reporting party told police that she sees teenagers congregate in the alleys behind the plaza on a “daily basis,” typically between the hours of 2 and 4 p.m. She reported seeing them on the basement stairwells, as well as on the roof. With Cuts to Resources, Fighting Vandalism is a Community Effort

As the police department grapples with staff cuts, the town will rely on residents and business owners to take vandalism—and its consequences—into their own hands.

When Jam'n Java owner Creig Muscato pulls into work each day, a three-foot black scrawl greets him in the parking lot. Employees file past green and orange scribbles on their way through his doors. And when patrons peer out the windows of his coffee shop, white spray-paint designs stare back.   “It looks awful,” he said about the graffiti surrounding his business. “It devalues the property and reflects poorly on the businesses. It gives a bad image of the neighborhood and the town neighborhood itself.” The vandalism is not solely concentrated around Muscato’s Mass Ave. coffee shop, nor is it only rampant in the Town Center.
