The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department. When arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction. Alleged Incident Involving Switchblade at Robbins Farm Park’s Independence Day Celebration A male allegedly pulled a switchblade on another male Wednesday, July 4, just before the fireworks started at Robbins Farm Park’s Independence Day Celebration. The alleged victim told Arlington Police later that night, at about 11:45 p.m., that he and his friends were at the park to watch the fireworks when he saw the suspect picking on another kid, who was much smaller than the suspect, near the park’s giant slides. The victim said he went over to intervene. He said he told the suspect to “knock it off,” and that’s …

Planning to head into Boston for the annual Pops concert? Here's everything you need to know. Jennifer Hudson will headline the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular during the city's 39th annual premier Independence Day celebration. The fun starts Tues, July 3 at 6 p.m., with a concert at 8:30 p.m., followed by more festivities on Wed, July 4 as thousands of people from across the country will flock to the Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade for live music, food, and of course, fireworks. The Oval (the area in front of the Hatch Shell) opens at 9 a.m. Wednesday with entertainment throughout the day and into the evening. July 4th at Robbins Farm Park

Celebrate Independence Day right here in Arlington.

If you’re not interested in navigating the crowds in Boston this Fourth of July, you can always celebrate America’s independence at Robbins Farm Park. The Friends of Robbins Farm Park, in partnership with the Town of Arlington, Premiere Roofing & Remodeling and NStar, is throwing its annual Independence Day Celebration, with live music from the John Penny Band, food, drinks and glow sticks and, of course, the Boston Pops Orchestra and fireworks display on the big screen. The July 4th event, which is free, gets underway at 6 p.m., with the John Penny Band at 7 p.m. and the fireworks shortly after 10 p.m. Click here for a full list of area fireworks displays.

Protect Your Dog from Summer Dangers

Our cherished summer sun and fun pose a host of threats to our hounds.

With the Fourth of July sneaking up on us fast, it’s the perfect time to pause and review some of the dangers our dogs face during summer months. After all, just being aware of what threats lurk is the first step in acting to keep our dogs out of harm’s way. Even as I write this, I can hear fireworks of some kind being set off in my neighborhood which reminds me that some dogs are truly frightened by the sounds of these. In the days around this yearly holiday, it’s a good idea to keep noise wary dogs on leash or in securely fenced yards at all times when they aren’t indoors, just in case a sudden round of firecrackers causes a ruckus.
