The town recently released its list of roads that will be repaved this spring, summer or fall. The roads were selected via the most recent pavement condition survey and criteria from the town’s Pavement Management System, according to the town. The roads will be repaved by the town’s paving contractor, D&R Paving, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works. Here’s the list, with estimated start times (subject to change due to weather or scheduling changes): If your road is on the list, flyers will be distributed to notify you prior to work commencing, according to the town. The following is from the Town of Arlington. The Town of Arlington through its contractor D & R Paving will be repaving Academy Street from Mass. Ave. to Maple Street. Work will include new wheelchair ramps, new sidewalks and driveway aprons, adjustment of curbs, and removal and replacement of road surface. The sidewalk in front of the Senior Center will also be replaced. Work is expected to begin Sept. 20 and take several weeks to complete. Parking restrictions and temporary detours are expected. Please plan your travel plans in the area accordingly. Thanks in advance for your patience during these roadway improvements.

The following is from the Town of Arlington. The Arlington Water Division will be flushing hydrants and checking street valves as part of their annual maintenance procedures. The work will occur to north of Mass. Ave. from the Cambridge line to Mystic Street between Monday, Sept. 24, and Friday, Nov. 30. This work will generally occur Monday through Saturday from 3-11 p.m. (weather permitting). Hydrants along this area will be opened, flushed and valves will be checked. Abutters of the area may experience temporary low water pressure or discolored (rusty) water. If you experience rusty water in your home, this is not an unsafe condition. Resident Alfonso Velasquez tipped off the proper authorities, who were able to rescue the ducklings.
A real-life Mrs. Mallard and her nine ducklings (one more than the famous “Make Way for Ducklings” statue in Boston Public Garden) were strolling up Sunset Road in Arlington at about 8:30 a.m. this morning when three of the ducklings fell through a sewer grate near Blossom Street. Arlington resident Alfonso Velasquez, who sent the attached photos to Arlington Patch, fortunately witnessed the incident and notified the proper authorities. Arlington Department of Public Works employees and the town’s animal control officer responded to the scene and were able to rescue the ducklings. Arlington's Inspectional Services Department is advising property and home owners to remove large accumulations of snow or frost heaves from elevated decks, flat roofs and all means of egress. Arlington has declared a snow emergency effective Tuesday, Feb. 1 starting at 10 a.m. Due to inclement weather, all afternoon and evening activities are canceled for today, Tuesday, Feb. 1. Arlington Public Schools will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 2. A parking ban will continue until further notice. Town officials said due to the expected accumulation of snow over the next few days, the ban may last until Thursday, especially in East Arlington.
