STATE CHAMPIONS: Arlington Catholic Mauls Millbury 49-28

Emma Roberson (16 points) and the Cougars won their first ever State Title with a convincing win over Millbury High School at the DCU Center.

The Arlington Catholic Cougars of 2010-11 now have a memory they will remember for the rest of their lives. Arlington Catholic High School will need to buy itself a banner. For the first time in school history, the girls basketball team earned a Division 2 State Championship with a convincing 49-28 win over Millbury High School at Worcester’s DCU Center. “We’ve had such tremendous talent, tremendous girls in the past that have come so close, and this is for all of them,” said Cougars head coach Dave Brady. “It feels great,” said Cougars junior guard Nicole Catizone. “No AC team has ever made it this far so for us to make it this far, making history feels really good,” she said. Arlington Catholic Tops Hopkinton, Advances to State Championship

Emma Roberson’s 25 points propelled the Cougars a 65-57 win at TD Garden Monday night in the Division 2 State Semifinals.

At TD Garden yesterday, Arlington Catholic came away with one of their biggest wins in team history. (See our full image gallery from the game here) Behind a sensational 25 point performance from Emma Roberson, AC took care of Hopkinton 65-57 to advance to the Division 2 State Championship game at the DCU Center in Worcester on Saturday. It didn’t happen exactly how the Cougars drew it up. After falling down 21-9 after a single quarter of play, AC needed to do a little soul searching. Hopkinton’s Alee Leteria scored 10 in the first quarter en route to a game high 26 point night.  “I was feeling it,” said Leteria, whose effort made it seem like Arlington Catholic’s season would go down in flames on the Garden floor.
