Is your road on the list? Find out below.
The town recently released its list of roads that will be repaved this spring, summer or fall. The roads were selected via the most recent pavement condition survey and criteria from the town’s Pavement Management System, according to the town. The roads will be repaved by the town’s paving contractor, D&R Paving, in conjunction with the Department of Public Works. Here’s the list, with estimated start times (subject to change due to weather or scheduling changes): If your road is on the list, flyers will be distributed to notify you prior to work commencing, according to the town. Officials have several proposals on the table to improve safety and mobility for bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians.
Arlington officials are looking at a number of options to improve biking access and traffic at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Route 60, and the different plans will soon be brought for public review at a hearing. Last spring, the town contracted Boston-based Howard/Stein-Hudson, a traffic engineering firm, to improve safety and mobility for bicyclists, drivers and pedestrians at the intersection. The firm has developed several ideas to connect the gap on the Minuteman Bikeway between Swan Place and Route 60, which town officials say has resulted in confusion and violations of the town bylaw prohibiting sidewalk bicycle riding. Guide brings information on rules and best recycling practices within the town.
The town of Arlington's official recycling guide is available online for the 2011-12 trash collection season. Here are a few important reminders from the guide: Curbside Collection: Trash and recycling should be placed on the curb no sooner than 6 p.m. the day before, no later than 7 a.m. on collection day. Acceptable waste includes: All trash that can be placed into acceptable containers, excluding any material covered by Massachusetts DEP Waste Bans, and/or inherently dangerous, toxic, or hazardous wastes by State of Federal regulatory authorities.
