Arlington's Eliad Cohen was recently honored at UMass Lowell's commencement exercises at the Tsongas Center in Lowell. Cohen, a plastics engineering major, was among the university's 2,900 graduates who received diplomas on May 26. Cohen was also the recipient of the university's Dean's Gold Medal for Highest Achievement in Plastics Engineering, as well as its Outstanding Graduate Student Award.

UMass Lowell had a record number of graduates this year, 2,900, which included 13 from Arlington. U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar gave the university's commencement address. The following is a press release from Wheelock College. Tamara Pace-Emerson, an Arlington native and senior at Wheelock College, has been selected to deliver the 2012 student speech at Wheelock’s commencement ceremony on Friday, May 11. Pace-Emerson grew up in Arlington but graduated from high school in Framingham in 2006. She is a former City Year volunteer and a leader among the Wheelock College student body. Pace-Emerson will graduate from Wheelock with a professional major in elementary education, as well as a bachelor’s degree in math and science. She also has a minor in juvenile justice and youth advocacy and hopes to continue in her education by attending medical school to study pediatrics or pursuing a degree in nursing. While at …

For graduate Abigail Horgan, the feeling of the first hello as a freshman at Arlington Catholic High School is the same as the feeling of her last goodbye as a senior. Horgan, valedictorian of the class of 2011, told her classmates at graduation on Friday that the feeling is of fear, uncertainty of what the future may bring the new graduates. But she is ready. “Embark on the journey with confidence,” Horgan told her classmates. “Know that we are ready for whatever life can throw at us.” On Friday, friends, teachers and family members packed Bentley University’s Dana Athletic Center in Waltham.
