You Ask... Patch Answers

When Is Anthony's East Side Deli Opening?

You asked; we've got your answer.

It’s no April Fools’ joke: Anthony’s East Side Deli is opening at 8 a.m. Monday morning. The new East Arlington deli is at 159 Mass. Ave., the former home of Audio Video Plus at the corner of Mass. Ave. and Marathon Street. The deli’s owner is Anthony Masci, a lifelong Arlington resident who currently lives on Acton Street in the Heights. Masci previously owned Maria’s Italian Cold Cuts when it was in Somerville’s Winter Hill neighborhood from 2008-2010. For more on Anthony’s East Side Deli, see its website, which includes a menu, Facebook page and Twitter handle, @_AnthonysDeli. The deli will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the week, and its number is 781-777-2033. More on Arlington Patch

The deli received its operating license Monday night.

A new East Arlington deli could be open by the end of this week, its owner told the Board of Selectmen Monday. About $125,000 went into renovating the space, according to Masci’s application. New Deli 'Opening Soon' in East Arlington

One Arlington Patch reader appears to be getting her wish.

In November, we asked you: What should go in the old Audio Video Plus space in East Arlington? Back then, Amie Capodanno wrote that she’d like to see a “really good sandwich shop” go in there, and it now appears that she may be getting her wish. Signs for “Anthony’s East Side Deli” recently appeared in the storefront’s windows, and the signs say the deli is “opening soon.” The space at 159 Mass. Ave. is at the corner of Mass. Ave. and Marathon Street. That block has seen a lot of action lately, as Something Sweet Without Wheat, a new gluten/wheat free bakery, is opening at 169 Mass. Ave. on Tuesday, and the new Barismo opened at 171 Mass. Ave. on Dec. 20. The Board of Selectmen’s office closes at noon on Fridays, but we’ll have an update …

What Should Go In the Old Audio Video Plus Space in East Arlington?

In our "Visions for Vacancies" series, we ask you what you'd like to see in vacant buildings or lots around Arlington.

Each month Arlington Patch presents a new vacant building or lot and asks you to tell us what you think would be the best use for it. Forget what zone it's in, setback regulations and all the other zoning jargon that puts most people to sleep. If you had your way, what would you like to see there? What would be the best use for the community? This month's vacancy is the old Audio Video Plus space in East Arlington, at 159 Mass. Ave. (the corner of Mass. Ave. and Marathon Street). What do you think should go in this storefront? Let us know by posting a comment below.
