New Town Manager to Take Oath Friday

Adam Chapdelaine takes over this week, meet and greet scheduled for March.

Arlington’s incoming town manager will be sworn in this Friday at Town Hall. Current Deputy Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine will take the Town Manager’s Oath of Office at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 to become Arlington's new top administrator. The brief swearing in ceremony will be performed by Town Clerk Stephanie Lucarelli and held in her office at 730 Massachusetts Ave. In January, the Board of Selectmen offered Chapdelaine the job after a final round of interviews . Ashland Town Manager John Petrin was the runner-up. A Middlesex prosecutor is honored for his service as a Marine, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy to open doors in town and more from this week's newsmakers in Arlington.

An Arlington High School student was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a police officer after the student allegedly became disruptive, resulting in the use of pepper spray by police. Outgoing Town Manager Honored at Retirement Celebration

Town Manager Brian F. Sullivan, who is set to retire later this month, was honored with a party at Town Hall Thursday.

A retirement party was thrown Thursday night at Town Hall honoring outgoing Town Manager Brian F. Sullivan. Sullivan worked as Arlington’s top administrator for eight years of his 37 year career in municipal government, and is set to retire later this month. Attendees arrived at Town Hall at 5:30 for a cocktail hour, followed by speakers honoring Sullivan. After a light dinner, incoming Town Manager and current Deputy Adam Chapdelaine spoke on Sullivan's behalf. Chapdelaine will replace Sullivan beginning Feb. 24. "This is one of the hardest working boards I’ve worked with," Sullivan said of the Arlington Board of Selectmen.

The event takes place on Thursday, Feb. 16, 5:30-8 p.m., at the Town Hall auditorium. Brian Sullivan has worked as Arlington’s top administrator for eight years and announced last year that he would retire. The Board of Selectmen chose Deputy Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine to replace Sullivan. Chapdelaine will begin on Feb. 24. Manager Seeks Input on Consolidation of Town, Schools Finances [POLL]

Arlington officials are seeking feedback on a proposal to consolidate town and school finances. The Board of Selectmen on Monday charged Town Manager Brian Sullivan with drafting an article for this year’s Town Meeting, after the Department of Revenue recommended the merger to improve effectiveness and accountability in town operations. Sullivan is looking for comments from town residents and officials on the DOR report. Comments should be submitted by Feb. 22 to townmanager@town.arlington.ma.us or via mail to Town Manager, Town of Arlington, 730 Massachusetts Ave., Arlington, MA, 02476. Deadline Extended to RSVP for Town Manager Retirement Party

Those interested in celebrating Brian Sullivan's retirement have until Friday to reserve a spot to the event.

Arlington residents will have until Friday at noon to RSVP to a retirement party for outgoing Town Manager Brian Sullivan, who is set to retire later this month. Selectmen Offer Top Administrator Job to Deputy Town Manager

Adam Chapdelaine is scheduled to take the reins from retiring Town Manager Brian Sullivan on Feb. 24.

Starting Feb. 24, Deputy Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine will step up to replace retiring Town Manager Brian Sullivan as Arlington’s top administrator. The Board of Selectmen offered Chapdelaine the job after a final round of interviews on Monday. Ashland Town Manager John Petrin was the runner-up. Officials on Monday will interview the two finalists to replace retiring Town Manager Brian Sullivan and they're seeking your input. As a part of the interview, the Board of Selectmen is welcoming suggested questions from Arlington residents to include in the televised interviews of the finalists. Each finalist will be interviewed for approximately one hour each. Board of Selectmen Chair Won't Seek Another Term

Clarissa Rowe said Monday evening she will not run for re-election after completing a second term in 2012.

Chair Clarissa Rowe won’t seek another term on the Board of Selectmen, leaving a second seat open for contention in this year’s town elections. “I’m going to be 64 in April and I can’t do two full-time jobs anymore,” said Rowe, who was first elected in 2006 and re-elected in 2009. “I’m going to stay with the one that pays me a little bit more and, more importantly, doesn’t have as many night meetings.” Rowe announced her intentions to not seek re-election at the selectmen’s first meeting of the year on Monday night. She said she wants to continue as a Town Meeting member representing Precinct 4, where she moved recently. The chairwoman added she is not going to be a “lame duck” in her last few months.
