Metro Baseball Team Drops to 1-2 in Bay State Games

Metro allowed 20 runs total in losses to Northeast and Southeast on Wednesday.

In day two of the Bay State Games, Metro kept up its gaudy offensive pace from game one, notching five runs against Northeast and eight runs later in the day against Southeast. Problem is, Metro—which includes Arlington's David Fitzgerald and Robert Wesoloski—gave up a whole lot more runs than they scored, losing to Northeast 8-5 and Southeast 12-8 to fall to 1-2 in the tournament and put an appearance in the Gold Medal Game in serious doubt. On Wednesday's final game, Roslindale's Gavin Pittore gave up eight runs—six of them earned—to Southeast in three innings of work. Metro Takes Bay State Games Opener, 9-6

Fourth of July weekend ended Monday, but the fireworks were still on display yesterday afternoon in Metro's Bay State Games opener at Bentley University's Bob DeFelice Stadium, as Metro ripped 10 hits for nine runs to beat West 9-6. After falling behind 4-0 in the first inning to the West team, the Metro team, made up of all-stars from high schools in the metro Boston area—including Arlington's David Fitzgerald and Robert Wesoloski—cut West's lead to 4-3 in the second inning and pulled away with a five-run fourth inning en route to the win.
