Three Arlington High Students Disrupt Display at Museum of Fine Arts

The involved students, who were on a school field trip, were kicked out of the museum Thursday.

Three Arlington High sophomores were kicked out of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston Thursday while on a school field trip, after two of them “went on top of an antique bed, which caused it to collapse,” according to interim Principal Mary Villano in an email Friday to parents, guardians and staff. The third student entered the display but did not climb on the bed, she wrote. “The students involved were immediately taken out of the museum and returned to Arlington High with a chaperone,” Villano wrote. “It was close to the end of the visit, so the lead chaperone decided to end the trip about 15 minutes early.” There was no permanent damage to the display, according to Villano. The school is not being charged for the disruption and is “…

I think Mary Villano's comment was taken out of context. None of those things are true. Most of the students and the community are horrified at what these three students did, and agree that they should be punished, and that it is…   more ›

Arlington Resident's Music Featured on MTV's '16 and Pregnant'

Kurt von Stetten isn't 16 or pregnant, but he still found a way to get his voice on the popular show.

Twenty years removed from his own graduation from Lexington High, Kurt von Stetten has found himself in the company of MTV's pregnant high-schoolers – and it’s an association he’s calling a “total win.” An indie artist living in Arlington, von Stetten has been making music for a while now (in addition to his photography and work for a national nonprofit) and twice this month has had his songs featured on MTV’s “16 and Pregnant.” On May 8, “Pangea,” a song off von Stetten’s 2010 album Pyramid, was featured in an episode called “Hope.” And last night, May 22, a song we can’t name here without going all "expletive deleted," but which you can check out on MTV’s website, was featured in an episode called “Devon.”  According to his bio on …

Please vote for your favorite by taking our poll and by clicking on the directory link below and writing a short, one or two sentence review.

With temperatures (and gas prices) rising, the latest installment of our Best of Patch Readers' Choice contest looks at where you go to vacation when you don't feel like going very far.  The question is: Where is the best place to staycation in or around Arlington? Here are a few of our favorite spots, but if we’re forgetting yours, please let us know in the comments and we’ll add them to the list. Voting's open until 9 a.m. this Friday, May 11. Ties will be broken by whichever place has the most positive reviews and comments posted below. We will announce the winner at noon Friday. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. A winner will be determined by Patch editors, based on poll results…
