Arlington’s Mary Lou Bigelow, a local Realtor at Bowes Real Estate Real Living and former Pan Am flight attendant, went to the Saturday, Oct. 13, performance of the musical “Catch Me If You Can” at the Providence Performing Arts Center in Rhode Island in her old, classic blue uniform. Bigelow (pictured second from right) and 23 other members of the Boston Chapter of World Wings International, the philanthropic organization of former Pan Am flight attendants, met Frank Abagnale Jr. at the show. Abagnale’s life is depicted in the musical, book and 2002 movie, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, as Abagnale, and Tom Hanks. The White House announced its fall 2012 interns on Wednesday.
Arlington's Cecille Joan Avila is a White House intern this fall. The White House announced its fall interns Wednesday, and Avila, of Emerson College, made the cut. "The mission of the (internship) program is to make the White House accessible to future leaders around the nation and to prepare those devoted to public service for future leadership opportunities," according to the White House's release.

Native Americans from all over North American came to Prowse Farm in Canton to celebrate their culture.
The Order for the Preservation of Indian Culture (T.O.P.I.C.) held it's 36th Annual Pow Wow at the Prowse Farm, 5 Blue Hill River Road in Canton on June 23 and 24, 2012. Arlington resident Betty Connors was there to help celebrate. The public was invited to join in the celebration of Native American culture with many native peoples from around the continent. The festivities included traditional dancing and drumming along with storytelling. Vendors in tents lined the Prowse Farm grounds with a wide variety of handmade items and supplies and delicious food. Arlington's Howard Rudzinsky and his sons, Sam and Abe, took part in the 5th Annual New Balance Heart Break Hill 5K last weekend.
Arlington’s Howard Rudzinsky and his sons, Sam and Abe Rudzinsky, participated in the 5th Annual New Balance Heart Break Hill 5K on Saturday, June 9, at Boston College to raise money for Franciscan Hospital for Children. Since birth, 2-year-old Abe has been cared for at the hospital in Brighton. Abe, who weighed 1.5 pounds at birth and was diagnosed with chronic lung disease and respiratory distress syndrome, was discharged from in-patient care earlier this year and now attends the hospital’s Medical Daycare Program. Each year, more than 15,000 children receive care at the hospital. Many patients, like Abe, are born weighing less than 2 pounds and need around the clock care while under mechanical ventilation to help them breathe, according…
Katey Stone will lead the U.S. women's ice hockey team at the Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
Katey Stone, an Arlington resident, was recently named head coach of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team by USA Hockey. Stone, who has led Harvard University’s team for the last 18 seasons and is the NCAA Division I active wins leader with 378, has been involved with USA Hockey since 2006. However, the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, will be her first Olympics. “It’s unbelievable and a tremendous honor, obviously,” she said. “I’m very proud and extremely humbled at the same time.” Stone, 46, will be the first woman to lead the team in an Olympic games. The following is from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. We are pleased to announce that three brothers, all Arlington home-school students, have won MWRAʼs annual poster contest. Jeremy Ware, grade 4, won second place in the grades 3-5 category. Sebastian Ware, grade 6, won third place in the grades 6-8 category, and Nathaniel Ware, also grade 6, won honorable mention. This year, students from schools across MWRAʼs service area were challenged to create posters about what happens at the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant or to write about the benefits of water conservation. MWRA received more than 1,750 posters and over 1,100 writing entries. A ceremony honoring the winning students and their teachers was held at Deer Island…

Herb Reed, the last living original member of the 1950s doo-wop group the Platters who recently lived in Arlington, died Monday, according to the Huffington Post. He was 83. Reed, a Kansas City, Mo., native known for such Platters’ hits as “Only You” and “The Great Pretender,” was living in a Boston area hospice at the time of his death.
