An Arlington business owner already facing time on charges of possession of heroin was once again caught carrying drugs in town, police said this week. The ballot is ready for this year's town elections. With deadline to file paperwork past, 13 candidates are on the contested races for Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Board of Assessors. One candidate runs unopposed for a spot on the Arlington Housing Authority. 13 Candidates Confirmed for Town Elections

This year's pool of candidates is reportedly the largest since 1993.

The ballot is ready for this year's town elections. With deadline to file paperwork past, 13 candidates are on the contested races for Board of Selectmen, School Committee and Board of Assessors. One candidate runs unopposed for a spot on the Arlington Housing Authority. This year's candidate pool is reportedly the highest one since 1993, according to YourArlington.com. Except for that year, no election had a larger number of candidates dating back to 1979, the news site reported. "It does seem like a lot for both those races," Town Clerk Stephanie Lucarelli said. Housing Corp. Set to Convert 32 Apartment Units into Affordable Housing

The $9 million project that involves three apartment buildings is set to be complete by mid-2013.

The Housing Corporation of Arlington is set to begin renovating three apartment buildings—totaling 32 units—early next year in what would be the largest affordable housing project built in the town in about 30 years, housing officials said. The Capitol Square Apartments renovation is a $9 million project funded through a mix of private and public financing with about 10 percent of funding coming from federal Community Development Block Grants. The renovation of the three-story, gray stucco buildings on Massachusetts Avenue is set to be complete by mid-2013, officials said.
