Follow Arlington Catholic girls basketball on their run for the title on Saturday.
Patch will be live blogging from the Division II North title game between Arlington Catholic and Reading Memorial High School at 2 p.m. Saturday. Arlington Catholic is coming off of a double digit win over Wilmington in the semifinal round. The Cougars face unbeaten Reading, which won the regular match up by a lopsided score. "It was only two years ago that they beat us by 20 the first time and we be them by 20 in the tournament," AC Head Coach Dave Brady said recently. "We're ready. Anything can happen, absolutely." If you can't make it to the Tsongas Arena, make sure you stay with us from before the tip-off to the buzzer on Saturday. Go Lady Cougars!

Teams will play in North Division 2 semifinal in Haverhill on Wednesday night, with a berth in the sectional final on the line.
If the Wilmington girls basketball wants to make it to the championship game, they're going to have to beat the champs to get there. After holding on to beat Waltham and doing the same against Gloucester, the Lady Wildcats are in the North Division 2 semifinal game against defending state champion Arlington Catholic. The game tips off at 7 p.m. inside Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill, with a berth in the sectional final on the line. "I think with only one day to prepare, we just have to work on some things that we need to work on as a team for ourselves, and just go out there and defend like we did (against Gloucester)," said Wilmington head coach Jay Keane following his team's 50-47 quarterfinal win. …

The Arlington Catholic Cougars of 2010-11 now have a memory they will remember for the rest of their lives. Arlington Catholic High School will need to buy itself a banner. For the first time in school history, the girls basketball team earned a Division 2 State Championship with a convincing 49-28 win over Millbury High School at Worcester’s DCU Center. “We’ve had such tremendous talent, tremendous girls in the past that have come so close, and this is for all of them,” said Cougars head coach Dave Brady. “It feels great,” said Cougars junior guard Nicole Catizone. “No AC team has ever made it this far so for us to make it this far, making history feels really good,” she said. Catizone scored 11 points in the game including three three-…

A look back at the week that was.
This week, the Arlington Catholic girls’ basketball team won the Division 2 state championship with a 49-28 win over Millbury at the DCU Center in Worcester. On Monday, the Cougars beat Hopkinton 65-57 in the semifinals, and Arlington Patch was at the TD Garden in Boston to capture the action. The team advanced to the final four by defeating Gloucester 62-49 last Saturday at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell. Around town, police are working to combat vandalism against local businesses but are also facing staff cuts at the same time. This week, police dealt with an alleged OUI and thefts. On Monday, the Board of Selectmen extended the leash law probation period at local dog parks, and, on Friday, columnist Bette Yip wrote about the challenges …

At TD Garden yesterday, Arlington Catholic came away with one of their biggest wins in team history. (See our full image gallery from the game here) Behind a sensational 25 point performance from Emma Roberson, AC took care of Hopkinton 65-57 to advance to the Division 2 State Championship game at the DCU Center in Worcester on Saturday. It didn’t happen exactly how the Cougars drew it up. After falling down 21-9 after a single quarter of play, AC needed to do a little soul searching. Hopkinton’s Alee Leteria scored 10 in the first quarter en route to a game high 26 point night. “I was feeling it,” said Leteria, whose effort made it seem like Arlington Catholic’s season would go down in flames on the Garden floor. Arlington Catholic …

The AC girls’ basketball team avenged an early season loss at home against St. Mary’s Monday night, knocking off the Spartans 56-32
With the fate of the Catholic Central League still very much in question as the top four teams fight for the top spot, any league win is worth it’s weight in gold. For the Arlington Catholic girls’ basketball team, a win over St. Mary’s felt good for a couple of reasons. Not only did they hand the first place Spartans their second league loss while keeping pace with the top teams, but the Lady Cougars also avenged an early season loss to St. Mary’s with a lop-sided 56-32 win. “That was a big win for us,” exclaimed AC’s head coach Dave Brady. “That keeps us in the hunt for the CCL title, which is obviously huge.” Much of the first half was very tight, as you’d expect a battle between two of the league’s top teams to be. Both AC and St. Mary…
