Update 3:50 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 Pleasant Street has reopened. ---------- A section of Pleasant Street is currently closed due to a downed utility pole from a one-car crash, Arlington police said at about 12:20 p.m. Wednesday. Inbound traffic from Belmont is being diverted at the Route 60 bridge to Highland Avenue, and outbound traffic is being diverted at Gray Street, also to Highland Avenue. The town is working with Verizon and NStar to repair the pole.

A car ended up in someone’s front yard at about 2:20 p.m. Thursday after a crash at the intersection of Palmer and Warren streets in East Arlington. The car, the green vehicle being towed above, then caught fire, according to police scanner reports. At about 2:45 p.m., the scene was under control. At least one other vehicle, a white SUV, appeared to be involved in the crash. Arlington Patch will have more details once they become available.

Five teens were cited Sunday night after a crash at Crosby and Ridge streets that required the Jaws of Life. One of the teens, the female driver, was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol, being in a vehicle with an open container, operating to endanger and speeding, according to police. Her four passengers, two females and two males, were cited for being minors in possession of alcohol and being in a vehicle with an open container. Police and emergency personnel responded to the intersection at about 6 p.m. Sunday for a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries. Once there, police found that three vehicles had been damaged. Two people were injured at about 12:15 p.m. Tuesday when a 2005 Jaguar X-Type and 2001 Dodge Stratus collided head-on on Mystic Valley Parkway, at Hayes Street. Patricia Randall, 64, of Arlington, who was driving the Jaguar, and 19-year-old Jose Santos, of Boston, the Dodge’s driver, were both taken by ambulance to area hospitals with minor injuries, according to Trooper Kenneth Gaetz, a State Police spokesman. Randall was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Santos to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, he said. The cause of the head-on crash, on the stretch of Mystic Valley Parkway along Lower Mystic Lake, was still under investigation late Tuesday afternoon, Gaetz said. Arlington emergency personnel also responded to the scene.

A 23-year-old Arlington man was arrested Thursday by State Police for operating under the influence after an early-morning rollover on Mystic Valley Parkway. John A. Carvalho, of Crosby Street, allegedly crashed his mother’s car while drunk at about 2 a.m. on Mystic Valley Parkway, at Hayes Street in Arlington, and then fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived. Arlington Police soon located Carvalho in another vehicle near his home. Carvalho had called a woman for a ride, and police were able to focus the search for Carvalho from the scene to his home, as he left his cell phone behind in his mother’s car, which helped police identify him as the possible driver. Police responded to Mystic Valley Parkway, at Hayes Street in Arlington, at about 2:05 a.m. this morning for a report of a rollover. The vehicle struck a tree and sustained very heavy damage, according to police scanner reports. All of the vehicles airbags deployed. The vehicle was unoccupied when the call came in, and it appeared the driver had fled the scene, according to the reports. About 10 minutes later, police located the driver and took him or her into custody for attempting to leave the scene, according to the reports. A garbage truck rolled onto its side Monday afternoon while turning right onto Pleasant Street from Lake Street near the Arlington-Belmont town line.
A JRM Hauling and Recycling garbage truck rolled onto its side at about 2:30 p.m. Monday while turning right onto Pleasant Street, toward Belmont Center, from Lake Street in Belmont. The one-vehicle crash, across from the Open Door Baptist Church, closed the westbound lane of Pleasant Street (Route 60) for more than three hours. Two “heavy-duty” tow trucks from Waltham Auto Tow were called in to flip the truck onto its wheels. One of the trucks then towed it away. About a dozen men from JRM and Waltham Auto Tow worked to clear the scene. In addition to righting the truck, the men put down saw dust to soak up fluids that appeared to be leaking from barrels on the truck labeled “hydraulic fluid.” No injuries were reported at the scene. Julie Dumas, the Arlington woman who was involved in the two-vehicle crash on Route 128/95 south in Waltham Saturday, only suffered abrasions and a broken clavicle. Dumas emailed Waltham Patch Sunday to update her condition and correct her age and the year of her Honda Pilot given by State Police. Dumas, 38, was said to have sustained “serious injuries” Saturday by police. After striking the right-side guardrail and then a tractor-trailer at about 10:48 a.m., Dumas’ 2005 Honda Pilot struck the right-side guardrail again, and this time rolled over the guardrail near Exit 26 (under the Route 20 bridge), according to police. This story has been updated. ---------- UPDATE, 11:30 a.m. (Sunday, June 3): State Police have identified the driver as Julie Dumas, 39, of Arlington. ---------- A 39-year-old Arlington woman sustained serious injuries on Saturday, June 2, in a car crash on Route 128 in Waltham. The woman was driving south at around 10:45 a.m. when her car, for unknown reasons, suddenly swerved from the far left lane into the guardrail on the right side of the road, according to a State Police spokesman. Her vehicle, a 2009 Honda Pilot, then swerved back to another lane, hit a tractor-trailer truck and hit the guardrail again. Her vehicle rolled over the guardrail, and she was ejected from the vehicle. The accident occured under the Route 20 bridge. …
