I rented an apartment through Debbie Shapiro of the rental group.
The craigslist ad said "gas heat is not included"
I attempted to confirm that the other utilities were included by email after holding the apartment by check (cashed before I signed a lease) It took Debbie 3 days to respond saying no, after avoiding the question in other emails.
I attempted to make amendments to the lease including my cats & not being responsible for snow removal. the rental group hand wrote additions to the lease that I did not know about until I showed up at their office for the lease signing.
An additional 1/2 month security for the cats was required, even the craigslist ad that cats were ok. They demanded that not only was I responsible for the snow but that I hire someone to remove it.
As a landlord myself I knew both changes were unethical & somewhat illegal and I said so. Debbie sat there and shook her head yes. That it was true it was illegal to charge more than one month security etc. But did not actually assist me.
The landlords had no idea I had already paid a cashed security deposit.
When it came time to collect the keys, I emailed Debbie and was told only "someone is still living there" !!!! after my pushing she said she would mail my lease (5 business days before move in date) and once I received it, I could find the landlord's name/number off of it, call her, & arrange to get keys myself.
The list actually goes on and on but there is not enough space in this box.
