Braves Win 2012 Intermediate League Town Championship!

The Foodmaster Braves are the 2012 Intermediate League Town Champions with a 12-7 win over the Harris Plumbing and Heating Rockies on Friday night! Once again it took three games and came down to the wire, but the Braves finished on top for their third Town Championship in team history. Conor Farrell picked up both finals wins, this time with five innings of two-hit ball. Garth McSweeney finished off the game on the mound, allowing just two more.

The Rockies scored early, as leadoff batter Jackson Foster reached on a wind-driven pop-up, then stole second, and later came home on a wild pitch. The Braves struck back with two of their own in the bottom of the first, as a Chris Warren single drove in two. The Rockies got the leadoff man aboard again in the second, this time on a sharp single by David O'Brien, who scored to tie the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the second, the Braves went ahead to stay. McSweeney walked and Farrell doubled to deep left-center, scoring McSweeney. Spencer Hayes struck out but reached on an error. Chris Warren, Carl Conti, and Jon Alves kept the line moving, as the Braves sent ten men to the plate and scored five. The teams traded runs until the fifth, when the Rockies broke through with three runs, led by Foster and Henry Feinstein, who drove in two with a line drive to right-center, cutting the lead down to 10-6.

In the final inning, Antony Kellermann had a one out hit and scored on a hit by Farrell.  McSweeney was driven in by Warren, giving the Braves a six run cushion.  The Rockies did not go quietly, however, even after the first two batters in the 7th struck out.  Foster, who was on base four times and scored three runs, got on base again with a single.  Feinstein reached on an error, Ahern was hit by a pitch, and Jim Doherty singled to score a run and load the bases.  The last out was recorded, however, as Warren scooped a ground ball to third and stepped on the bag for the win and the series.

The Braves got ten hits on the night - Warren with three, Farrell with two, and one each for McSweeney, Hayes, Alves, Teddy Ronayne, and Kellermann.  McSweeney scored four runs, while Farrell and Hayes had two each.  The Rockies were led on offense by Jackson Foster who had two hits, was on base four times, and scored three runs.  Ryan Ahern, Marcus Messuri, and Jim Doherty were on base twice each.
