Summer Weekend Getaway: Trains, Yachts, Fireworks and Muddy Women

Looking for a fast and fun getaway from Arlington this weekend? Summer in New England is filled with options. Check out what's happening this weekend in a few favorite summer spots:

Cape Cod and the Islands

Weather: There's a slight chance of thunderstorms on Saturday, with highs around 83. On Sunday, temperatures will be in the mid 70s, and there's a slight chance of showers.


Take a train ride through the cranberry bogs and marshlands of Cape Cod, including trips across the Cape Cod Canal, and visit an historical train station and museum. , in West Barnstable, is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, and trains depart at 9:25 a.m. and 12:25 p.m. for the scenic tour. The museum includes activities for children.

Rhode Island

Seacoast New Hampshire

Weather: Saturday will be partly sunny with a chance of thunderstorms and temperatures in the upper 80s. Sunday will be mostly sunny, which highs in the mid 80s.

According to , "Hundreds of women will jog, run and crawl through the mud Saturday as a part of the , a celebratory Seacoast 5K and obstacle course designed to raise money and awareness for leukemia and lymphoma research and patients." It starts at 133 Exeter Road in Hampton Falls at 9 a.m. Saturday.
