Softball Teams to Open Postseason Play Thursday

The Arlington High softball team will be at home, while Arlington Catholic will travel to Amesbury.

The eighth-seeded softball team will host No. 9 Melrose at 4 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Division 2 North bracket, while , the No. 12 seed, will travel to No. 5 Amesbury for a 3:45 p.m. contest.

In their first season in the Middlesex League, the Spy Ponders finished in a three-way tie atop the standings, as they, Lexington and Reading all had 7-3 league records. The Spy Ponders went 14-6 overall and beat league foe Melrose 11-4 in the teams’ only showdown.

Arlington enters postseason play having won seven of its last nine games. Melrose (12-8) is in the midst of a four-game winning streak.

The Cougars went 13-7 during the regular season. Amesbury, of the Cape Ann League, went 16-4.
