Wilmington girls soccer head coach Sue Hendee mustered just one word after watching Arlington's Hannah Howe-Lubowich keep Saturday's playoff opener scoreless with 10:20 remaining in regulation.
"Wow," said Hendee on the sidelines as Howe-Lubowich glided backwards, lept airborn and tipped a would-be goal over the crossbar.
Arlington head coach head coach had a one-word description as well. He called the play "tremendous."
Howe-Lubowich's heroics assured that the game would go to overtime and eventually penalty kicks, where the Spy Ponders stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 3-2 win to advance in the North Division 2 bracket.
Wilmington connected on its first two penalty attempts, but the hosts would not find the back of the net again.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Robinson, Colleen Kane and Ellie Parravano fired home their attempts to move Arlington into the quarterfinal round against Bedford on Monday.
