Today is Thursday, Feb. 28. Here are five things you need to know:
1.) The eighth-seeded Arlington High boys’ hockey team’s season came to a close Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to No. 9 Melrose (11-7-4) at O’Brien Rink in Woburn in the preliminary round of the Division 1 North bracket. Melrose scored once in the second period and once more in the third. The Spy Ponders finish the season 9-7-5, while Melrose goes on to face No. 1 Chelmsford (14-3-4) on Sunday.
2.) The defending state champion Arlington Catholic girls’ hockey team defeated No. 26 Cambridge/Somerville (7-11-3) 6-1 Wednesday at the Ed Burns Arena in the preliminary round of the Division 1 state tournament. The Cougars (14-4-2), the No. 7 seed, advance to face No. 10 Lexington (13-5-3) at 7 p.m. Saturday back at the Ed Burns Arena.

3.) The 19th-seeded Arlington High girls’ hockey team (12-8-1) will face No. 3 Westford (15-3-2) at 7 p.m. tonight at the Groton School in the first round of the Division 1 state tournament. The Spy Ponders defeated No. 14 Watertown/Melrose 2-0 Monday in the tournament’s preliminary round.
4.) Coming off a 68-52 home win over Tewksbury in the preliminary round of the Division 2 North bracket, the 16th-seeded Arlington High boys’ basketball team (11-10) will look to continue that success at undefeated, No. 1 Melrose (20-0) at 7 p.m. tonight. The Spy Ponders only lost at Melrose by 2, 58-56, last week in the teams’ last game before the postseason. Arlington lost to Melrose by 11, 59-48, on Jan. 29 at home.

5.) The No. 5 Arlington Catholic boys’ basketball team (14-6) will face No. 12 Stoneham (11-9) at 6 p.m. this evening at Woburn High School in the first round of the Division 3 North bracket. Following that game, the No. 3 Arlington Catholic girls’ basketball team (16-6) will play No. 14 Salem (10-10) at 7:45 p.m. in Woburn in the first round of the Division 2 North bracket.
