Patrick's PALS 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament To Benefit Fragile X Research

On June 2, 2012, between 150-200 participants will play as part of 32 teams in the 16th annual Patrick's PALS double-elimination event. This day is the culmination of months of fundraising efforts that ends with lots of basketball- and a silent auction, mostly made up of sports memorabilia. Patrick is the son of James & Pamela (formerly Pamela Whitney of Arlington Heights) Vershbow of Watertown, diagnosed with Fragile X Syndrome at 10 months; Patrick is now 19 years-old. Fragile X Syndrome is the most common inherited form of mental retardation and the leading cause of autism. ALL proceeds go to FRAXA, a national organization (but locally based) which exists with one purpose in mind- find a cure! FRAXA has raised over $20 million and it has used this money to fund top-notch research by the best scientists. Incredible developments are currently taking place- more then one drug is currently in the final stages of trial and might hit the market by 2013- these drugs are not the endgame, but they do provide some hope at helping to reverse the symptoms!
