Initial post:

Arlington native Pat Connaughton, a right-handed pitcher at Notre Dame, should get drafted Friday by a Major League Baseball team, according to baseball experts.

Rounds 3-10 of the MLB draft get underway at 1 p.m. Friday, and Connaughton could go in the top 5 rounds, according to a recent Sports Illustrated article.

Connaughton’s draft stock may have taken a bit of a hit when he decided to return to Notre Dame for his senior season of basketball. According to Sports Illustrated, Connaughton will most likely start his professional baseball career this summer, play his senior season of basketball at Notre Dame and then move to baseball full time next spring.

Connaughton, a 6-foot-5 pitcher with a 95 mph fastball, is ranked as the No. 112 overall prospect by MLB, No. 128 overall by Baseball America.

Connaughton played his high school ball at St. John’s Prep in Danvers.

We’ll update this article as soon as Connaughton gets drafted.
