Arlington High School turned up the heat but was unable to overpower the Reading Rockets.

Solid defense and opportunistic offense granted Reading Memorial High School a 3-2 win over in the opening round of the Ed Burns Tournament Tuesday night. Cody Macaluso's goal 6:12 into the third period stood as the game winner.

The teams tussled through a close first period until a Reading outburst in the last minute. Pat Manzi's goal with just 37 seconds left put Reading up by a goal, and less than 20 seconds later Garrett Phelan took a Ryan Thompson feed and slid the puck past Arlington goaltender Luke Trembley.

The game got chippy in the second period, and Arlington muscled its way onto the scoreboard with a power play goal when Dan Jigarjian whistled a shot over Evan Morelli's left shoulder. Arlington turned up the heat just two minutes later when sophomore Seth Coiley broke free on the right wing, swooped across the front of the net and tucked his shot around Morelli's right skate as the goalie split to block the net.
