Late August evening event where families can stargaze as well as get to know candidate for state representative Joe Monju

Arlington, MA – Joe Monju, candidate for State Representative for the 23rd Middlesex District, is holding a special event for Arlington and West Medford residents in late August called “Reach for the Stars.” It all takes place at Parallel Park – located at Medford Street and Parallel Street in Arlington ­– on Friday evening, August  24th from 7:30-10pm. In the event that it’s raining or totally overcast on Friday, the rain date for this event will be Saturday evening, August 25th. Residents are encouraged to attend this event with their children.

“Joe Monju has an interest in both teaching and astronomy, so we thought this would be a great way for Arlington and West Medford residents to have a fun night out with their children, as well as to get to know their Republican candidate for state representative,” says Phil Lohnes, campaign manager. Two telescopes will be set up in advance for this event, and the expectation is that people will be able to view the Moon, the planet Saturn, and various constellations. Through the naked eye, we may also be able to catch a glimpse of the international space station, which is projected to be visible between 8:55pm and 9:05pm that Friday evening.

“This will be an informal, educational event for parents, children, and young adults,” continues Lohnes, “although Joe will certainly be happy to discuss the issues facing Arlington and West Medford voters in November including the state budget, the size of government, the proposed Massachusetts Avenue lane reduction, proposals to extend the MBTA green line into Medford, and the recent leaf blower ban in Arlington.”
