Arlington High School Ranked Among State’s Best

US News & World Report ranked Arlington High in the state’s top 25.

US News & World Report released its annual list of the nation’s top high schools Tuesday and Arlington High School ranked among the state’s best.

Arlington High came in at No. 21 in Massachusetts, 465th nationally.

From the rankings:

“Arlington High School is ranked 21st within Massachusetts. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement course work and exams. The AP participation rate at Arlington High School is 55 percent. The student body makeup is 49 percent male and 51 percent female, and the total minority enrollment is 20 percent.”

Massachusetts’ top 10:

2. Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School (Marlborough)
3. Belmont High School
4. Wellesley High School
5. The Bromfield School (Harvard)
6. Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (Malden)
7. Dover-Sherborn Regional High School

9. O’Bryant School Math/Science (Roxbury)
10. Sharon High School

Mark, their description of the methodology says that the AP test pass rates are included in the "college readiness" score, accounting for 75% of it. It doesn't distinguish between students who passed one AP test from those who passed more, however. In any case, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well AHS ranks.

If residents of a town are mostly all professionals then a high number of their kids will follow a college prep path, so that percentage says more about the town. Of those taking AP, nearly all passing is what to look for - that is success more than choosing to take a college route. With some cops making over $150,000 a year here, rather than having that in college loans, college doesn't have to be for everyone.

Don't fear none Liz is down in DC fixing the kids tuition thing. Probably take 10 more years she's so dynamic just don't wait to long for any rebates etc... But its a good fight, Just a so so champion.

Interesting how Arlington has 25th rank for highest SAT scores, yet they rank 296 in salary paid to teachers ($61k +-)...go figure.......Where is carlyle and lincoln-sudbury on the SAT rank while having highest teacher salaries ($95k+)
