Special-Election Petition Validated by Town

The Board of Selectmen is expected to schedule the special election at its Monday meeting, most likely for Thursday, July 19.

A group of Arlington landscapers’ regarding has been validated by the town, Board of Selectmen Administrator Marie Krepelka said Wednesday.

The petition, which needed 864 signatures from registered voters (3 percent of all registered voters), had more than 1,400 signatures, she said. The Board of Selectmen is expected to schedule the special election at its Monday meeting, most likely for Thursday, July 19.

Through the election, Arlington residents will be able to vote to repeal the controversial bylaw amendment, . However, in addition to winning the vote, opponents of the ban will need at least 5,760 voters (20 percent of all registered voters) to vote for the repeal in order for it to go through.

The special election is expected to cost the town between $25,000 and $30,000, according to Town Manager Adam Chapdelaine.
