Stephen Harrington, a Precinct 13 Town Meeting member from Columbia Road, went before the Board of Selectmen Monday night to raise his objections to the town’s practice of parking municipal vehicles in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

“It’s atrocious,” he said.

Harrington, who said he has relatives buried in the cemetery, told the board that it has been going on for years.

The entrance at Sachem Avenue is marked “Parking for cemetery business only,” according to Harrington. Town contractors, commuters and town employees all park there, he said, as well as fire trucks.

Harrington has said he’s not concerned with occasional use of the cemetery for parking, it’s the regular use that bothers him.

He said numerous vehicles were parked at the cemetery during a service on Monday, July 22. “People should be appalled,” he said.
