Selectmen Approve New ‘Froyo’ Shop’s License

Self-serve frozen yogurt in Arlington took one step closer to becoming a reality Monday.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved Monday a common victualler, or operating, license for “Frozland Frozen Yogurt,” the new self-serve “froyo” shop planned for 882B Mass. Ave.

The shop is being proposed by Sobhy I. Ibrahim. He told the board Monday he’s looking forward to working hard to create a successful business in Arlington.

“Arlington is one of my favorite towns,” he said.

Ibrahim said he chose the location, which is next to Lady Siam, because of its proximity to the high school and its rear parking.

Self-serve “froyo” has become quite the trend in the Arlington area.

In the last year, two self-serve spots, Fruitee Yogurt and Orange Leaf, have opened in Lexington Center, one, Swizzles, opened in Winchester Center, and two more, iYo Cafe and again Orange Leaf, came to Somerville’s Davis Square. A Pinkberry was also slated for Davis Square this fall but withdrew its application after it appeared it would be denied.

Frozland already has a Yelp page, although it is limited.
