How Are Arlington's New Trash Limits, Mandatory Recycling Working Out for You?

Now that you've had some time to experience the changes, let us know what you think of them in the comments below, and we'll recap your responses later in the week.

It’s been a little over a month since the town of Arlington, via its new waste contractor, implemented trash limits and mandatory recycling.

And we want to know: How are the new rules affecting you (if at all)? Would you like to see them dropped or enhanced in any way?

Also, how has the new contractor, JRM Hauling & Recycling, been so far?

Let us know by posting a comment below, and we’ll recap your responses later in the week.

Many of my neighbors are not aware of these changes or have chosen to ignore the new rules. The new contractor seems to be doing a good job. I am enjoying putting on my recycles each week. I am happy that I no longer need to keep track of which week I need to put out my trash and recycles and which week to just put my trash.

I think it's the stupid thing ever, the town is made up of senior citizens, they would Have problems with all these new rules, just pick up the trash & recycle items the old Way, so you don't have to worry about the "trash police", which I understand is the regular police , good use of tax payers money!!

I'm a senior citizen, and I have no problem with these changes. I believe the taxes I pay are well spent in this area. Bob Sprague

Recycling in one barrel trash in another. Leave both out until both have been pickied up. Go out and put both barrels away together. Not too hard.

The new system works fine for me and I appreciate that we now recycle every week. My only gripe is that I don't have much in the trash barrel and so just put out a plastic bag some distance away from the recycle bin. So far the guys do pick up each pile (or bag), and don't leave anything left untouched.

I hear that newspaper should still be in a separate container for recycling?? The drivers are trying to sort out newspaper when loading containers onto the trucks, sounds like a lot of extra work, where is the SINGLE in the single stream process??

We're very happy to have recycling every week - makes it much easier. We try and keep our trash down generally so we haven't been affected by limits. Nicole and Kevin Knobloch

It's awesome! We don't have recycling piling up in the garage, have been able to get rid of a bin we no longer need = more room in the garage. We still tend to keep clean paper/cardboard separate from plastic/metal/glass: cleaner and easier. Love not having to remember which week is which. Big improvement all around.

Hmmm, I would think that seniors would find it easier to not have to figure out which weeks one CAN'T put out recyling. And, it does't pile up so much/easier to schlepp to rhe curb. Btw, I've lived here 25 years: it used to be made up of seniors, nice quiet seniors. No more. Lots of noisy, gum-wrapper dropping kids/teens have taken over. Have them help their senior neighbors with the barrels.

I am still trying to figure out why Bob says he is a senior citizen?

Trash pickup is no loner unlimited and that creates a problem for many. I don't mind sorting and recycling it's the tax increase that the town has imposed on home when we need to throw out in excess of 100 gallons of trash is the problem. Every bit we throw out now past the 100 gallon limit a charge is imposed on the home owner. I did not vote for that.

I agree that the weekly pickup of everything, trash & recyclables, is very convenient, and very good. Also noticed the encouragement in the new literature to separate paper; a bit of departure from the still new single-stream model, and slightly inconvenient. We'll just add another inside bin or two for it though, no biggie. Haven't noticed any change from the past trash contractors, and that's a good thing as well. Actually, correction, one thing...the JRM guys don't throw the barrels around after emptying them. Thank-you!

Liky, dear . . . Did you forget to take your calm meds? Sounds like you could use a massage, a week off, a vacation, something to unwind the near-hysterical, foaming at the mouth, aggressive snarl you're trapped in. Byw, "grate Ida" isn't Stefan's fault: it's auto(hardlyever)correct once again attempting to read human minds, and failing. Bloody pain that is, having to proofread what it substitutes for what one meant/typed.

Appreciate the weekly recycle pick up. Really appreciate that they don't throw the barrels all over the place, they actually take the time to place them back on the curb. There are always cars parked in front of my house and when the recycle guys missed mine I called the company they made sure it was picked up within 2 hours. This is a huge improvement, in the past with the old company I was lucky if they came back at all, but never on the same day.

Many of my neighbors still have barrels full of garbage sitting in their driveways. They put garbage barrels on garbage day and then need to move full barrels into their driveways. I think they are trying wear done the garbage collectors.
