Does James Marzilli Deserve His State Pension?

The state Retirement Board granted the former state senator from Arlington his pension Thursday. Do you agree with the board's ruling? Let us know by posting a comment below.

James Marzilli, the former state senator from Arlington who pleaded guilty last year to lewdly harassing four women on the streets of Lowell in 2008, will receive his $14,000-per-year state pension, according to an AP report on Boston.com.

The state Retirement Board granted Marzilli his pension Thursday after determining that his crimes “were not connected to his official duties as a lawmaker,” according to the report.

Marzilli had been seeking a pension of $26,000 per year, which, under an old law, is given to incumbents who lost an election. Marzilli, a Democrat, resigned in November 2008, prior to the election. State Sen. Ken Donnelly now fills the seat that he vacated.

In his career, Marzilli was also a member of the state House of Representatives and Arlington government.

Do you think Marzilli deserves his $14,000-per-year state pension?

From Marzilli to the presidency... NONE should be allowed to stagnate and ruin public policy for more than six years. NONE should be allowed a pension. NONE should be allowed to be a lobbyist for life. They should be volunteers with limited terms who cannot later USE they "contacts" to suck off the tapayer teet. Marzilli is TYPICAL of the fools who run for high school government AND end up in government as a career. VOTE THEM ALL OUT!

I actually like some career politicians so please don't vote then out on my behalf. You might be putting some tea bathers in their place. Give Marzilli his pension.

There must be consequences and a clear understanding not rewards. Nothing personal but if your added to the empty frames on the wall of shame, your pact with the PUBLIC should be / must be voided.
