Does James Marzilli Deserve His State Pension?

James Marzilli, the former state senator from Arlington who pleaded guilty last year to lewdly harassing four women on the streets of Lowell in 2008, will receive his $14,000-per-year state pension, according to an AP report on Boston.com.
The state Retirement Board granted Marzilli his pension Thursday after determining that his crimes “were not connected to his official duties as a lawmaker,” according to the report.
Marzilli had been seeking a pension of $26,000 per year, which, under an old law, is given to incumbents who lost an election. Marzilli, a Democrat, resigned in November 2008, prior to the election. State Sen. Ken Donnelly now fills the seat that he vacated.
