A Poet Laureate for Arlington?

At least one selectmen is pushing for the honorary position.

Selectman Joseph Curro Jr.

At a recent meeting, Selectman Joseph Curro Jr. proposed the idea of creating the honorary position, Poet Laureate of Arlington.

At his request, the Board of Selectmen put a poet laureate bylaw amendment on the upcoming Town Meeting Warrant. The board will vote at a later whether or not to support the bylaw amendment, which, if passed at Town Meeting, would create the position. Curro said he is also looking into whether the new position requires a bylaw amendment, or just simple board action.

Curro said, as he sees it, the poet laureate would not be compensated. The poet laureate might be tasked with creating a piece of work on the town to be read at Town Meeting or work with local students, he said.

Selectman Steven Byrne said he liked the idea.

Curro said the idea came from conversations he had with Arlington Libraries Director Ryan Livergood last summer. He said the town has taken steps to support other art forms, such as the visual public arts, in the recent past.

Would you like to see a Poet Laureate of Arlington position created?

Yes, I would like to see Arlington have a poet laureate. We should honor those whose facility with language enlightens our world.

like I said in my previous comment . This guy wants to be the Town Poet. Meanwhile we have a HUGE Drug issues with our young people and our leaders do not want to address it. Worry about the Drugs and the POEMS

Here are some words from Robert Creeley, a respected American poet who was born in Arlington: http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/for-love-7/

Why shouldn't Arlington have a poet laureate? After all, the town has an area called on the town website "Poet's Corner," a name that should probably be spelled "Poets' Corner."

Mr Sprague , I think Mr Curro and the rest of the board should be worrying about the drug epidemic that's hitting our town. Young people passing away left and right , drug dealers all over town . That's what Joe should be worrying about, not about being the town poet . Yes Joe there is a drug problem and maybe our leaders should be worrying about getting these people the help they need and I am not meaning for profit " the right turn " . Town Poet please give me a break

Sprague , what's your take on the drug issue in town ? You claim your a journalist what's your take ?
Hokey Wolf January 27, 2014 at 10:46 AM
How about Joe becoming the drug lesion for the board of selectmen . Joe you ran from Weymouth because you didn't like the way it was turning . Just ask your brother how many drug incidents they see a week . I bet it's pretty close to Arlington's incidents
Bob Sprague January 27, 2014 at 10:55 AM
How do you know Curro is not worried about "drug epidemic"? Have you asked him directly, or just complained here? Me? I will report about a "drug epidemic" (including alcohol), if there is data to support that. At the same time, I can encourage us to reflect on literature. One does not exclude the other.
Hokey Wolf January 27, 2014 at 11:25 AM
Please Sprague " if there is data to support it . There plenty of data to support it. Nobody wants to talk about it. It may scare the moonbats away and lower the property values . " if there's data to support it " Hey Sprague идти ебать себя
Bob Sprague January 27, 2014 at 11:37 AM
Please present the data to which you refer and provide the source for that data.

Hey Sprague don't play wise guy with this topic . There are plenty of families suffering in this town because of this . Don't play Mickey the Dunce . This is one topic if I was you I wouldn't make a mockery of .
Bob Sprague January 27, 2014 at 12:11 PM
No mockery intended. I just want to know what data you have support your claim. If you have some, let us know. At the same time, as we address this concern, might also honor a poet?
Hokey Wolf January 27, 2014 at 12:21 PM
Hey Sprague ask your daughter how many kids are hooked on drugs.? You read the police blogs. Like I said Curro should be worrying about this more than being the " Poet Laureate " .
Bob Sprague January 27, 2014 at 12:24 PM
I have three daughters and one son. I can ask them all. I was asking you. I take it that all you have is an opinion without specific facts.

Bob, do you know the phrase; too much information? Why would you reveal personal information, like the number and gender of your children, on a public discussion board with someone who displays an antipathy for you? Your action also appears in conflict with your posts in the Sono thread of this past weekend where you threatened legal action and garnered sympathy because another poster commented on your family. TMI and passive/aggressive use of your family, there is a poem somewhere in all of this.
