Update 2:30 p.m., Monday, April 23
American Red Cross volunteers were at the scene of the fire, and the organization has provided temporary lodging and clothing to three affected families (five people).
A two-alarm fire at 40 Dudley St. at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday caused extensive damage, according to police scanner reports.
Part of the two-story brick building’s roof collapsed in the blaze, according to the reports.
The building’s roof had a tarp over it Sunday afternoon, and the building’s top-story windows were boarded up.
The building, which is directly behind on Dudley Street, is a mixed-use building with commercial space on the first floor and residential units on the second, according to freelance photographer Mike Moura, @NEFirebuff, on Twitter.
Moura posted photos from the fire on his blog. He wrote that all occupants were evacuated safely and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
