Arlington Teen Allegedly Crashes Stolen Car While Drunk
A drunk Arlington teenager was driving a stolen car the wrong way on Chandler Street at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday when he crashed into a tree and then backed over a curb into a telephone pole, according to police.
After refusing a field sobriety test and breathalyzer, Timothy Hardy, 19, was arrested by Arlington Police and charged with driving under the influence (first offense), receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a one-way violation.
The vehicle sustained major front-end damage and moderate damage to its left rear, according to police.
Police said that when they arrived on scene, Hardy, who appeared to be unbalanced and had glossy eyes, slurred speech and an “obvious odor” of an alcoholic beverage, denied driving the vehicle and became “belligerent, argumentative and uncooperative.”
Two witnesses identified Hardy as the driver, according to police. One said that Hardy exited the vehicle and then told her that he was “the boss” for stealing the car.
The owners of the car, who lived down the street, said that they were unaware their car was stolen until they were contacted by police after the crash.
