Police Log: Teen Allegedly Crashes Stolen Car While Drunk

Arlington Teen Allegedly Crashes Stolen Car While Drunk
A drunk Arlington teenager was driving a stolen car the wrong way on Chandler Street at about 2:15 a.m. Saturday when he crashed into a tree and then backed over a curb into a telephone pole, according to police.

After refusing a field sobriety test and breathalyzer, Timothy Hardy, 19, was arrested by Arlington Police and charged with driving under the influence (first offense), receiving a stolen motor vehicle, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a one-way violation.
The vehicle sustained major front-end damage and moderate damage to its left rear, according to police.

Police said that when they arrived on scene, Hardy, who appeared to be unbalanced and had glossy eyes, slurred speech and an “obvious odor” of an alcoholic beverage, denied driving the vehicle and became “belligerent, argumentative and uncooperative.”
Two witnesses identified Hardy as the driver, according to police. One said that Hardy exited the vehicle and then told her that he was “the boss” for stealing the car.
The owners of the car, who lived down the street, said that they were unaware their car was stolen until they were contacted by police after the crash.
Man Offered ‘Shrooms’ on Minuteman Bikeway
A man told police at about 4:50 p.m. Saturday that he had just been approached by a 20-something male and female on the Minuteman Bikeway, near , and was asked if he wanted to buy some “shrooms.” The man said he declined the offer and walked away. Police were unable to locate the male and female.
Man Steals Getaway Ride … Gets Away
The owner of Quad Cycles on Massachusetts Avenue told police at about 2 p.m. Saturday that a man had entered the store at about 1 p.m., grabbed a bicycle and then fled with it through the front door. The owner said he ran outside, but the man had already started riding the bicycle east on Massachusetts Avenue. The owner said he then ran inside to grab another bicycle to chase after the man, but the bicycle he grabbed didn’t have any pedals.
Bicyclist Collides with Car
A female bicyclist received minor injuries after crashing into the side of a car taking a right from Massachusetts Avenue onto School Street at about 5:45 p.m. Friday.
The female said that she was riding east on Massachusetts Avenue when the car took a right turn in front of her, cutting her off. The driver said that the female crashed into the middle of her passenger side door.
The bicyclist was taken to Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge for evaluation.
